A Blow-up Criterion for the Compressible Navier-stokes Equations
In this paper, we obtain a blow up criterion for strong solutions to the 3-D compressible Naveri-Stokes equations just in terms of the gradient of the velocity, similar to the Beal-Kato-Majda criterion for the ideal incompressible flow. The key ingredients in our analysis are the a priori super-norm estimate of the momentum by a Moser-iteration and an estimate of the space-time square mean of t...
متن کاملA note on necessary conditions for blow-up of energy solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations
In the present note, we address the question about behavior of L3-norm of the velocity field as time t approaches blow-up time T . It is known that the upper limit of the above norm must be equal to infinity. We show that, for blow-ups of type I, the lower limit of L3-norm equals to infinity as well. 1991 Mathematical subject classification (Amer. Math. Soc.): 35K, 76D.
متن کاملProperties at potential blow-up times for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations
In this paper we consider the Cauchy problem for the 3D Navier–Stokes equations for incompressible flows. The initial data are assumed to be smooth and rapidly decaying at infinity. A famous open problem is whether classical solutions can develop singularities in finite time. Assuming the maximal interval of existence to be finite, we give a unified discussion of various known solution properti...
متن کاملFinite Time Blow up for a Navier-stokes like Equation
We consider an equation similar to the Navier-Stokes equation. We show that there is initial data that exists in every Triebel-Lizorkin or Besov space (and hence in every Lebesgue and Sobolev space), such that after a finite time, the solution is in no Triebel-Lizorkin or Besov space (and hence in no Lebesgue or Sobolev space). The purpose is to show the limitations of the so called semigroup m...
متن کاملRemarks on the Blow-up of Solutions to a Toy Model for the Navier-stokes Equations
In [14], S. Montgomery-Smith provides a one dimensional model for the three dimensional, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, for which he proves the blow up of solutions associated to a class of large initial data, while the same global existence results as for the Navier-Stokes equations hold for small data. In this note the model is adapted to the case of two and three space dimensions, w...
